Aromatherapy- What is it?
Essential Oils : What are they?
Simply put, Essential Oils are plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance and other medicinal properties.
Aromatherapy is the Art & Science of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries by various different cultures to aid in improving & healing the body.
When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the Amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. According to some scientists, Essential Oils and even the use of Bach Flowers can change the eletrical and magnetic fields of the human body in just a few seconds thus strengthening those systems.
Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin; moving throuhg various systems, such as the Circulatory & Lymphatic systems. A Massage Therapist might add a drop or two of an to oil to help relax tight muscles during a massage or blend oils together to help manage sleep or stress. Essential Oils may be added to bath salts to create a soothing soak or even into lotions or creams to help heal wounds, bruises and bones. The variety of blends and their uses are endless!
